DESCRIPTION:In 2013\, Jon Bonne\, Wine Editor and Chief Wine Critic for the San Francisco Chronicle\, wrote a book called “The New California”\, detailing the quiet revolution that was taking place in the California wine scene. Winemakers had begun pushing the envelope of California’s winemaking style\, seeking cooler climates and planting Chardonnay\, Pinot Noir\, and Syrah just a few miles from the cold Pacific\, where only a few years earlier\, the experts thought you couldn’t even ripen grapes. \n  \nOthers looked to California’s past heritage\, sourcing ancient “heirloom” vines\, some planted over a hundred years ago. Still others started planting lesser known European varieties from Italy and France. While Chardonnay\, Pinot Noir and Cabernet aren’t going away anytime soon\, there is no doubt that the vinous landscape of California will look very different in twenty years than it does today. \n  \nWe can’t think of a better way to take a look at what’s happening in California today than by pairing a selection of some of our favorite California wines with a menu created by Executive Chef Andrew Lattanzio\, inspired by California Cuisine and the late summer season’s abundance of great\, fresh ingredients. Stop by anytime between 2pm – 4:45pm and we’ll guide you through a tasting flight of wines from this stellar winery. Almost more Burgundian than classically Californian in style (or Rhone-like in the case of the Syrahs)\, Peay wines are known for their beautifully delineated fruit tones\, focused precision\, fresh acidity\, moderate alcohol\, and their ability to age. SUMMARY:Rudius Winery Dinner with Owner Brittany Ames
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Pluckemin Inn for a wine pairing dinner featuring a selection of wines from Rudius\, one of Napa’s hottest up and coming wineries. This tiny winery\, founded in 2005 by Jeff Ames and his wife Brittany\, has hit it out of the park with their stunning 2012 offerings. Jeff’s story started when he was working in a wine shop in Memphis before moving west\, initially doing a stint in Oregon for Lynn Penner-Ash. He then moved to Napa\, where he honed his skills working with some of the best\, including time as Thomas Brown’s assistant winemaker at Schrader\, Tor\, Maybach\, and Outpost\, before starting Rudius. \nBrittany\, who works in all aspects of the winery\, will guide us through a line up of their wines beginning with the delicious 2013 Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay\, followed by a trio of Cabernets from 2012 including the Napa\, Panek and Kaley cuvees. We’ll then move on to their 2012 Hudson Vineyard Syrah\, a stunning wine from some of the oldest parcels in Lee Hudson’s iconic vineyard\, originally planted by Michael Havens more than two decades ago.
